Blue

How can an eye have a story? According to Roland Barthes in The Metaphor of the Eye, the eye can migrate as an object from image to image, so its history is that of migration, of the cycle of avatars that it passes through far from its original being.

The body of work springs from a fear of losing the sense of sight. For over two years, I was collecting interviews in Karslruhe, Nice and Johannesburg with blind people and thinking about other senses and how the disability discriminates those people in everyday life.
I can’t imagine living in the dark if my eyes are damaged, torn out, or burned. It is believed that color is the most valuable visual experience for humans. If I were to lose my sight, I would only want to remember the color blue.
